Installation of Timber Flooring
As long as you are willing to part with some money, there is no reason why your house should not have a beautiful timber flooring. Besides the beauty, installation of timber flooring makes it easy to thoroughly clean your house. Moreover, the wooden floor lasts longer and can be easily repaired in case of any damages.
Timber Varies With Change in Moisture
Like all other materials that absorb water, timber changes in size and shape when exposed to moist surfaces. The process of absorbing water causes it to cup and bow when the moisture content is low. It is therefore advisable to carry out installation of timber flooring when the underfloor is completely dry.
Some home owners make a silly mistake by installing timber flooring immediately after the installation of an underfloor. This is amounts to wastage of money because the floor will be damaged in a matter of time.
Big windows and Heaters
If you live in hot areas, it is recommended that you install large windows on your house. This will help in regulating the humidity of the floor to prevent warping. On the other hand, those who reside in cold areas should install heaters in their houses to prevent moisture from accumulating because it will cause the timber flooring to start cupping.
Installation of Timber Flooring Comes Last
There is no point of installing timber flooring in a half-finished house because the materials will be damaged as soon as they are installed. Before getting started with the installation, ensure that the roof, doors and windows have been fixed so that the entire structure is water proof. This can be enhanced by installing gutters that direct rain water away from the floor.
Underfloors Should Remain Dry
The underfloor should be kept dry at all times. It is therefore necessary to cover it with a water proof material so that humidity does not find its way into the timber flooring. In cases where the floor has been raised with slabs, they should be of the same height because their variance will be reflected in the wooden flooring.
On The D-Day
- Do not tolerate children and pets during the installation session. They have no business being there and if anything they will mess up your good work. Have them stay with a relative or a friend who does not live far from your house. That way they can be brought back once you are done with the installation.
- Bring all the materials and tools you will need into the room and check to ensure they are functional.
- Open the package containing the wood panels and examine two pieces. Ensure that the click system is in good shape. If the tongue and the groove are damaged, just repack them and return the materials to your supplier. If he is a good business person, he will give you a new package at no cost. But do not expect the same if you have tampered with more than two panels.
- Once you have confirmed that the panels are okay, you should mix the two packs to get a unique color pattern. You should get down on your knees and start fixing them into place. If you are the lazy type you better hire someone to assist you. Do not install a panel into a damaged surface because it will result in an ugly finish and the worst is that such surfaces are usually in the middle of the room. Repair such surfaces before carrying on with the installation.
- Always read and abide by the manufacturer’s instructions to get the best results. If you ignore them and get an ugly finish, you are not entitled for any guarantee or refund. That is the only way of being on the safe side.
